![]() This should result in the game at least running, but like I said performance will be horrible and you need a pretty strong CPU to make this even playable, which is unlikely if you already had a bad GPU in the first place. Finally open Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\AppOptions.txt and change AllowSWRenderer to 1 and FullScreen to 2 Next check the checkbox at the bottom that says Force WARP. I'm not sure if Windows 10 requires anything, because everyone I've helped so far on 10 had dxcpl already working)Ĭlick on Edit List and add SteamApps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Base\Binaries\Win64Steam\CivilizationVI.exe to the list. Press Windows+R again and run dxcpl (If this can't be found, install the Windows SDK which can be found here for Windows 7 and here for Windows 8. You can run the game with software rendering but expect < 10 fps in strategic view on a modern quadcore. I have found a fix that will most likely make your game run but performance will be abysmal. Either way, a driver update can't hurt but don't expect it to fix it this way if you have an older GPU. It's possible a driver exists that adds support but you never installed it. If you have a semi modern GPU (Intel HD 4000, GTX 400 series and up, cards that should support DX11 according to the manufacturer) and for some reason have not updated your drivers in years, this should be your first priority. If it does say 11_0 but you are still getting this error I would recommend contacting support, but feel free to leave a message too because I'd like to know about it. Only having lower values in there (such as 10_1 or 10_0) means your GPU does not support DirectX 11 and will not work. These are the actual DirectX levels supported. To see the real version go to a Display tab (most likely the first one if you have multiple, but compare the names to make sure). This is wrong, it's simply the version supported by your OS. Most likely you will be greeted by DirectX Version: DirectX 11 (or 12 if you have Windows 10) and assume your GPU is obviously compatible. If you don't believe me, press Windows+R and run dxdiag. I'm not aware of any bugs in the game that would cause this otherwise. To start off this post, this is most likely caused by your GPU simply being outdated and the easiest (and most expensive) fix is to upgrade. ![]()
